Jenny finds an engagement ring in Brody's bag; Mansfield dislikes his future son-in-law.
Brody's ex-girlfriend Heather returns as a partner in the company and Brody thinks he's falling behind. As a birthday gift, Jenny decides to help Brody cross something off his life goal list to cheer him up. Mansfield has the perfect island wedding planned for his daughter ... until the island sinks.
Brody panics when Jenny invites the cultured and sophisticated Mansfield over to their zero-bedroom half-bathroom "palace" for dinner to thank him for paying for college. Meanwhile, Harvard and Lindsay are the perfect couple who never, ever fight - that is, until all their pent-up tension explodes in the middle of Jenny's dinner party.
When Brody discovers Jenny never wants to get married it's a blow. When she says she doesn't like musicals, it's just salt in the wound. But Brody thinks if he can change Jenny's mind about musicals, maybe one day she can change her mind about marriage.
Mansfield's annual basketball tournament is held, pitting the upstairs crew against the ground floor. Meanwhile, Harvard discovers dating is difficult when he and Lindsay are tricked into going on their first date.
Brody begins his new job with a new boss, but his excitement diminishes when he discovers his first assignment is to take down Mansfield. Meanwhile, Jenny and Derrick introduce Harvard to online dating.
A rival begins luring away Mansfield's top people, giving Brody hope that he'll at last get his job back. Meanwhile, Derrick and Jenny try to help Harvard move on and pursue new women, particularly the clearly interested Lindsay.
Brody realizes he must downsize his life, so he gives up his apartment and crashes with Jenny, who then gets rattled when it seems the two are actually living together. Meanwhile, Harvard and Derrick insist they can live on their modest ground-floor pay better than Brody.
Brody works on the ground floor in an effort to climb his way back to the top, but Harvard and Derrick worry they'll lose their jobs to the overly efficient Brody. Meanwhile, Jenny discovers she went to high school with Lindsay.
The only way to earn the respect back from his boss is to either fire his girlfriend or his best friend.
